From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, admission is completely free as we honor the history and legacy of lighthouses across America—and right here in Eastern North Carolina.

• Step inside the beautifully restored 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse, the only surviving screw-pile lighthouse of its kind in North Carolina.
• Discover the rich maritime history of the region with exhibits in our museum, showcasing the lives of lighthouse keepers, historic photographs, artifacts from the Roanoke River, and more.

National Lighthouse Day commemorates the passage of the Lighthouse Act by Congress on August 7, 1789, which established federal support for lighthouse construction and maintenance.
