๐Ÿ—“๏ธ National Lighthouse Day โ€“ Thursday, August 7, 2025

August 7 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Roanoke River Lighthouse & Maritime Museum โ€“ FREE admission, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Celebrate National Lighthouse Day with us at the Roanoke River Lighthouse & Maritime Museum in Downtown Plymouth!

From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, admission is completely free as we honor the history and legacy of lighthouses across Americaโ€”and right here in Eastern North Carolina.

What Youโ€™ll Experience:

  • Step inside the beautifully restored 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse, the only surviving screw-pile lighthouse of its kind in North Carolina.
  • Discover the rich maritime history of the region with exhibits in our museum, showcasing the lives of lighthouse keepers, historic photographs, artifacts from the Roanoke River, and more.
  • Bring the whole family and enjoy a day of exploration, education, and celebration of our local heritage.

Why August 7?

National Lighthouse Day commemorates the passage of the Lighthouse Act by Congress on August 7, 1789, which established federal support for lighthouse construction and maintenance. This day serves as a tribute to the vital role lighthouses have played in guiding mariners and shaping coastal communities.

Don’t miss this special opportunity to visit one of North Carolinaโ€™s treasured landmarks. We look forward to welcoming you!
